Safe newborn circumcision without the Vitamin K shot.
If your baby hasn’t received the intramuscular Vitamin K injection — by choice, birth setting, or circumstance — most hospitals will turn you away. SafeCirc® won’t.
You deserve care that honors your needs.
Why families choose SafeCirc®
Less invasive. More comfort.
When families decline (or don’t receive) the intramuscular Vitamin K injection, they’re often told circumcision simply isn’t available to them.
At SafeCirc®, it is.
We’ve spent years building an outpatient care model in Rhode Island specifically designed for families with unique medical, cultural, or personal needs — including those who decline standard hospital Vitamin K injection. Our Minimally Invasive AccuCirc® method, combined with a rigorous bleeding-reduction protocol, allows us to safely perform circumcision in an outpatient setting.
Our Minimally Invasive AccuCirc® method requires no dorsal slit (an extra incision in the foreskin) — which means less bleeding and minimal discomfort for your baby — and we use a specialized protocol for circumcision without the Vitamin K injection to honor family preferences.
Here, we believe it’s your job to decide what’s right for your family — and it’s our job to make it safe. From your first consultation through complete circumcision healing, our team is available 24/7 to support your family's journey.
Five-star reviews from families just like yours.
Medical care that honors your family’s values
Every family has a story. Whatever brought you here, you and your newborn are in safe hands.
We serve families who:
Have declined the intramuscular Vitamin K injection for personal, cultural, or religious reasons
Delivered at home or at a birth center, where routine hospital prophylaxis may not have been administered
Prefer oral Vitamin K as an alternative to the injection, or have declined all prophylactic Vitamin K
Are navigating a tight timeline and need a provider who can move thoughtfully and quickly
Simply want a provider who listens
Dr. Tomlinson and the SafeCirc® team believe it is your right to make informed decisions for your baby. We don’t apply one-size-fits-all hospital protocols to families with unique needs. Instead, we assess every infant individually, take extra precautions to protect your baby’s safety, and provide the same compassionate care that every family at SafeCirc® receives.
“As a mother, all you want is to know your babies are loved and taken care of, and I can truly say that is the experience and care we had at SafeCirc®.”

At SafeCirc®, we believe families can and should choose what’s best for them. That’s why we lead with transparency, every step of the way.

Yes. SafeCirc® has developed a specialized protocol for circumcision without the Vitamin K injection. Our approach includes the minimally invasive AccuCirc® technique (which requires no dorsal slit), thermal cautery to control bleeding, and an optional oral Vitamin K regimen. If you decline all forms of prophylactic Vitamin K but agree to its use in a rare emergency, we will still perform the procedure. Please call us to discuss your specific situation — we are here to help.

Hospitals follow standardized protocols designed for large patient populations. Without intramuscular Vitamin K, most will automatically decline to perform circumcision due to bleeding risk concerns, even when alternative safety measures exist. This leaves families without good options — which is exactly why SafeCirc® exists.
-
Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeding (VKDB) is a rare but serious bleeding disorder in newborns caused by low Vitamin K levels. SafeCirc® reduces this risk through several layers of precaution: the AccuCirc® device eliminates the dorsal slit incision, significantly reducing trauma and blood loss; thermal cautery seals blood vessels during the procedure; we offer an oral Vitamin K protocol as an alternative to the injection; and we perform a thorough individual risk assessment before every procedure.
While we’re on the subject, here’s an important note on Vitamin K physiology in newborns:
At birth:
Newborns naturally have low vitamin K stores because it crosses the placenta poorly. (This is why intramuscular (IM) vitamin K prophylaxis is standard to prevent hemorrhagic disease of the newborn.)
After birth:
Vitamin K levels gradually increase as the baby ingests vitamin K through breast milk or formula. By day 7, levels are generally higher than immediately after birth. -
Oral Vitamin K requires multiple doses — typically at birth, 2–4 weeks, and 6–8 weeks — and has been used safely for years in countries like the Netherlands. The intramuscular injection is a single dose that provides immediate protection without requiring follow-up. Both are valid options. At SafeCirc®, we offer a carefully monitored oral regimen for families who prefer it, and can discuss the right approach for your baby during your consultation.
-
If all prophylactic Vitamin K is declined but you agree to its use in the event of a bleeding emergency, SafeCirc® will still offer the procedure. We take every additional precaution available — including using thermal cautery, tissue adhesive, a custom wound care protocol, and the AccuCirc® device — to minimize risk. Please call us to discuss your situation; every family’s circumstances are different, and we assess each infant individually before proceeding.
